NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
July 10, 2014
We’re now just two weeks away from the opening of training camps around the NFL, and the anticipation is beginning to build ahead of the 2014 season. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look around the league and see who’s making headlines out there right now. Here’s the latest.
Patriots Notes: It’s been a while since we’ve checked in on the gang from Boston, so let’s see what some of the Patriots have been up to as we check out a few headlines coming from over there.
RB Brandon Bolden is in danger of getting cut from the team, according to sources close to the situation. He’s had some injury issues and the team has three other versatile and talented backs to choose from.
Speaking of versatile and talented backs, rookie James White is one of those three. He’s projected to be a big contributor in his first NFL season, likely earning touches at the expense of Shane Vereen and Steven Ridley.
Meanwhile, Aaron Dobson seems to think he’ll be ready and available during the upcoming training camp sessions. He’s coming off foot surgery this past March and registered 37 grabs for 519 yards and four scores in his rookie campaign.

Dennis Pitta, TE, Baltimore Ravens: Last season at around this time, we were singing the praises of Ravens TE Dennis Pitta, saying he’d be a key part of the Baltimore attack and was destined for a huge season.
Well, that didn’t quite work out thanks to a hip injury, but it’s looking like the team is getting back to that plan this year. Pitta has been utilized in a variety of different offensive looks during the off-season workouts, from being split wide to hitting the backfield.
That considered, most people (us included) are tagging Pitta for a huge year. As long as he’s staying healthy, he’ll have no problems eclipsing the 669-yard, seven-touchdown season he had in 2012.
Eli Manning, QB, New York Giants: Let’s finish things up by sticking on the east coast and checking in on the Giants. Their new QB coach Danny Langsdorf has his veteran signal-caller working on getting back to basics this off-season, and we may see that work paying off on the stat sheet.
Manning is reportedly trying to fine-tune his mechanics and fundamentals this off-season, tweaking everything from footwork to ball handling.
Will it make a difference? We’ll have to wait and see, but one thing’s for sure: Manning definitely won’t want to relive his career-high 27 interceptions he threw last year.
Week 1 Schedule: Now that the schedules have been released, we can start looking forward to the on-field action as we warm up for the 2014 campaign. Here’s a look at the first week of the season, which begins September 4.
