With training camps getting going around the NFL this week, it’s a very exciting time for football fans. While we’re waiting for our favorite teams to hit the practice field, let’s take a look at some of the headlines and notable happenings from around the league in our daily update.

Clowney Status: Today, we’ll get our latest glimpse of hotshot rookie Jadeveon Clowney when the Texans’ rookies report for training camp. When we’ll get to see him in action, however, is another story all together.
Clowney is still recovering from last month’s surgery to correct a sports hernia, and it’s unclear exactly when he’ll be able to get back to practicing at full speed. For the record, he himself believes that he’ll be able to dress when the team starts in on practice on July 26, but we’ll have to wait and see if his prediction comes true or not.
Assuming Clowney sticks to his timetable and doesn’t experience any setbacks, he should have enough time to learn the defense and be effective when the season begins. All things considered, the Texans should look pretty good on that side of the ball. The offense, however, will be another story.

Cleveland Browns RBs: There’s an interesting little storyline developing in the Browns’ backfield, and it’ll be playing itself out during training camp and the preseason. There’s a heavy buzz surrounding rookie running back Terrance West, and some are already predicting big things for the youngster.
Sources close to the team are even going so far as to say that West could oust current No. 1 RB and new Brown Ben Tate from the starting role--and do it by the beginning of the season. Even if Tate does manage to hold onto the job in training camp, West figures to have a pretty sizable contribution to the running game as a whole.
West destroyed opposing defenses at his small school Towson last season, posting 2,509 yards rushing with a whopping 41 touchdowns.

Snee Retiring: Today will be an important day in the career of longtime Giants guard Chris Snee. He’ll reportedly be announcing his retirement today, following one last meeting with the team to discuss his potential options.
Snee was drafted by the Giants in 2004 and has been one of New York’s most consistent and reliable picks since then. He’s made the Pro Bowl four times and been selected as a first-team All-Pro. He’s also a two-time Super Bowl winner.
Snee would likely still be playing if not for a slew of injuries he’s battled over the past couple of years. He’s been plagued by hip and elbow issues in the last two seasons, both requiring surgery. Still, he’s only missed a half-dozen starts in his lengthy career.
