NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
August 4, 2014
Now that the NFL’s preseason games are officially underway, it’s really starting to feel like the 2014 season is close at hand. We’ve all got football fever right now, so with that said let’s take our daily look around the league and see which players are in the headlines this morning.
Sam Bradford, QB, St. Louis Rams: Down in St. Louis, there’s a healthy buzz surrounding the team as they head into the 2014 campaign. A lot of that buzz centers on quarterback Sam Bradford, who is entering his fifth season in the league.
Bradford looks noticeably stronger in his upper body this summer, which is a byproduct of his rehab from knee surgery. The increased bulk is reportedly leading to more velocity in his throws.
Bradford is entering a make-or-break year with the Rams in 2014. He was only able to start seven games last season due to the injury, and he’ll need to post a full 16 games during this campaign (something he’s only done twice in four years). The good news is that he’ll likely just have to game-manage in a run-heavy offense.

Texans Injuries: We got updates on a couple of notable Texans yesterday, so let’s visit the injury front and see what’s happening there.
No. 1 wide receiver Andre Johnson sat out yet another practice yesterday, nearly one week after injuring his hamstring last Monday. The team doesn’t seem too concerned yet, though; It’s likely they’re just nursing him along to make sure there’s no setback.
Also, No. 1 running back Arian Foster missed out on practice yesterday. It was his fourth straight missed session. Similarly to Johnson, the team doesn’t seem to think this situation (a hamstring issue) is too big of a deal. They’re calling him day-to-day at this point.
Knowshon Moreno Update: Yesterday, we got another update on injured Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno. He reportedly still is having trouble walking following his arthroscopic knee surgery, and there’s a good chance that he could miss the entire preseason. He’s been seen with ice packs on his knees in the past few days.
Moreno had the surgery late last month, and it looks like he’s still a ways off. In the meantime, the team will have to lean on starter Lamar Miller to try and support what should be an improved passing game.
Week 1 Schedule: Now that the schedules have been released, we can start looking forward to the on-field action as we warm up for the 2014 campaign. Here’s a look at the first week of the season, which begins September 4.
