The San Diego Chargers play host to the Dallas Cowboys to open the preseason at Qualcomm Stadium.
The Cowboys head in to the preseason hoping a playoff berth is in their future but their dreams might hinge on the performance and health of Tony Romo who is coming off of back surgery. Gone are DeMarcus Ware and a Lion's Share of the big plays the defense mustered but there are even more questions then answers. Dallas really isn't the deepest team so you won't see much of the starters in the preseason opener. Brandon Weedon will see his share of the snaps with Lance Dunbar and Joseph Randle featured in the rushing attack. I am hoping to see TE Gavin Escobar a bit in the passing attack as well while the defense that was #30 versus the pass will be busy looking at players that will improve on that dubious distinction.

Is this the year San Diego breaks through to make a run at the Super Bowl? After a strong second half finish a year ago that ended with a loss to Denver in the postseason the expectations are high. Perhaps if Phillip Rivers continues to play at a high level and stays healthy. I don't believe Rivers or RB Ryan Matthews will do much more then dress for this game as will Antonio Gates, Keenan Allen and Eddie Royal to name a few. Kellen Clemens and Brad Sorensen will get most of the snaps with Donald Brown and Danny Woodhead getting some carries in the running game. I'd like to see Malcolm Floyd, Tevin Reese and TE Ladarius Green have a few balls thrown their way but I'm not sure if the backup position players will see much action or the fringe players will see the field the most.
If this were a regular season game we would at least know the lineups but the preseason is an unknown. I'll go with what I think will be the team that has the better talent on the field longer...
