The Line: Carolina Panthers -1 -- Over/Under: 34.5 See the Latest Odds

The Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers meet Friday in a preseason game at Bank of America Stadium.

This will be the second preseason game for the Bills as they just lost the Hall of Fame game to the New York Giants, 17-13. In that game, the Bills killed themselves with two interceptions thrown in Giants territory, while the defense allowed a 73-yard touchdown bomb in the fourth quarter. Starting quarterback E.J. Manuel only had seven pass attempts, which is likely going to change in this matchup. The Bills also averaged a solid 4.5 yards per rush. Overall, the Bills played well enough to beat the Giants and cover the spread, but they made too many mistakes. Expect the starters to stay on the field a little longer in this game.

Carolina Panthers vs. Buffalo Bills NFL Pick, Odds, Prediction - 8/8/14

This will be the first of four preseason games for the Carolina Panthers, a team that looks to build on last year’s 12-4 record. The Panthers have one of the best defenses in the NFL with Luke Kuechly and Charles Johnson leading the way. However, you can expect the Panthers starting defensive unit not to be on the field long given the fact they’re a proven unit that doesn’t need much reps. The Panthers offense is the biggest question mark, as quarterback Cam Newton needs to find reliable weapons at receiver, while DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart need to step up at running back. Look for a lot of passing attempts from the Panthers, as they try out a lot of different receivers in this game. Veteran Derek Anderson is the Panthers backup quarterback, and he has four passing attempts in the last three years.

Despite the loss, I like the way the Bills played in the HOF game and really liked the performance from backup quarterback Jeff Tuel. Look for the Bills to build on their performance on Sunday and come out with a better effort and get the preseason win on the road.
