The Line: Detroit Lions -2.5 -- Over/Under: 37 See the Latest Odds

The Cleveland Browns open up the preseason with a trip to Ford Field to face the Detroit Lions.

Cleveland revamped their offense in the off season to give themselves more scoring punch but 90% of the hoopla surrounds quarterback Johnny Manziel. Of course the rest of the fanfare revolves around the status of Josh Gordon who the Browns need on the field. However, this is the preseason and we wouldn't see much from a Josh Gordon anyway. We will see Brian Hoyer for a bit and probably a lot of Manziel who will get his first taste of live action. The question is who will he be handing the ball too and who will be catching it. I have always liked Nate Burleson and I think he will gets some balls thrown his way against his former team while Miles Austin might see a few in limited action. I want to see Terrance West run the ball as well although I think we see more passing with Manziel.

If this were the regular season opener I'm sure most of the talk would be about quarterback Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson and the ability of the offense to rack up the yards and light up the scoreboard. While true I'm sure we see Stafford and Johnson in limited duty to eliminate injuries which the Lions can't afford. Kellen Moore and Dan Orlovsky will receive the bulk of the playing time and if you are wondering what these two guys can do get a good look now because neither will see the light of day as long as Stafford remains healthy. I would like to see Theo Riddick and Joique Bell get some chances to show their wares in the running game although the reserve quarterbacks need to show what they can do in the air.

I think most of the hype for this game will be directed at the Browns who have some new weapons to display and might want to give their long suffering fans a good look. I sort of know what we're getting with Detroit and want to see the Browns as well...
