NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
August 10, 2014
With the NFL preseason going strong, it really feels like Week 1 is around the corner. After every exhibition game, we’re getting more information on each team around the league and seeing potentially what things will look like once the players kick off for real. That said, let’s take our daily look at what’s happening around the league.
Montee Ball Latest: There was a Montee Ball sighting at the Broncos’ practice session yesterday, but the Denver RB was just there watching.
He’s still recovering from an unexpected appendectomy, but seems to be progressing well. Ball is slated to be making his preseason debut on August 23 against Houston, provided everything goes as planned in his recovery.
As Denver’s No. 1 RB option in the wake of Knowshon Moreno’s departure, Ball has some big expectations on his shoulders this season. He’s certainly got the talent to step up and contribute immediately. Ball is coming off of a 120-carry, 559-yard season in 2013, logging four rushing scores. He also had 20 receptions for another 145 yards.

Vincent Brown Latest: While we’re out west, let’s visit with Brown, who also made his return to practice yesterday. He was limited, but was able to perform some drills on his own off to the side.
Brown is working his way back from a calf strain, and the good news is that he’s no longer wearing a boot of any kind.
Many people are seeing an increased role for Brown this season, as he’s shown some sparks of brilliance in his first few years in the league. He’s coming off a 41-reception, 472-yard effort in 2013, but he was only able to find the end zone once. We see big things for him this season as the Chargers offense continues to develop in its attempts to keep up with the Broncos.
Jones Suspension: It seems like every few days we’re getting fresh news on suspended players, and late last week it was the Dolphins’ Reshad Jones’ turn.
It was announced that he’s been suspended for a total of four games for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing drugs policy. Unfortunately for Miami, he’s the second member of their defense to get hit with this type of violation--Dion Jordan will also be sitting out four games at the beginning of the year.
Jones is a big part of the Dolphins’ defensive plans. He started 16 games last year, posting 107 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a pick-six. It’s been just about one year since he inked a four-year, $30 million deal with the team.
Week 1 Schedule: Now that the schedules have been released, we can start looking forward to the on-field action as we warm up for the 2014 campaign. Here’s a look at the first week of the season, which begins September 4.
