The Line: New England Patriots -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

The Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots will play a Friday night preseason game at Gillette Stadium.

The Eagles lost their first preseason game of the year against the Chicago Bears mainly due to four turnovers. Nick Foles threw two interceptions on nine pass attempts and Matt Barkley threw one pick on 16 attempts. Surprisingly, Mark Sanchez had the best outing for the Eagles, completing 70 percent of his passes for 79 yards. The Eagles defense allowed 491 total yards and 17 third quarter points. Needless to say, it was an overall sloppy performance from the Eagles and there’s only room for improvement heading into this matchup. Foles is likely going to see more playing time in this matchup to correct his mistakes. Meanwhile, there may not be much helping when it comes to the Eagles defense.

The Patriots were blown out in their first preseason game against the Washington Redskins, a matchup that didn’t include Tom Brady. Ryan Mallett and Jimmy Garoppolo combined for 25 attempts, 207 yards and one touchdown. The Patriots used a variety of running backs but averaged just 2.6 yards on 24 touches. Brady has looked great in practice but don’t expect him to play much in this matchup, if he even plays at all. The Patriots are a real vanilla team on both sides of the ball in the preseason and that’s not going to change. Defensively, the Patriots allowed 270 yards and at least one score in every quarter. The Pats didn’t score until the final minutes in the fourth quarter.

You can expect a much sharper Eagles squad on the offensive side of the ball in this game. I also didn't like the way Mallett played, which is big considering he'll continue to get the bulk of the time at quarterback. The Pats don't play to win preseason games. Give me the Eagles on the road.
