The Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders play a preseason game Friday night at the O.co Coliseum.
The Lions won their first preseason game with a 13-12 victory over the Cleveland Browns. The Lions monitored the starters minutes very carefully, as quarterback Matthew Stafford threw only four passes for 18 yards. Kellen Moore and Dan Orlovsky played most of the offensive minutes, as the Lions finished the game with 219 passing yards and one touchdown. The Lions threw the ball 40 times compared to 21 rushing attempts, which proves there’s a real backup quarterback battle going on in Detroit. The Lions finished the game with 296 yards and scored a touchdown in the final minutes to win the matchup. Defensively, the Lions surrendered 282 yards and forced two turnovers, while nobody came away with a sack.

The Raiders lost their preseason game 10-6 to the Minnesota Vikings. The Raiders obviously had very little going for them offensively, as they passed for 182 yards and an interception. Matt Schaub threw seven passes for 21 yards, while Matt McGloin and Derek Carr battled for much of the game for the backup QB job. McGloin rushed for the Raiders lone touchdown, which came in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Darren McFadden had one carry for 23 yards, and overall the Raiders finished the game with 268 yards. Defensively, the Raiders allowed only 236 yards and didn’t give up a single score for the final three quarters. The Raiders also racked up an impressive six sacks and eight tackles for loss.
I like Detroit in this game. The Lions clearly showed that they're looking to air it out this preseason to see what their backup quarterbacks are made of. Oakland showed very little progress in its frst preseason game and didn't score until the final minutes.
Give me the Lions.
