The Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings square off Saturday at TCF Bank Stadium in preseason action.
The Cardinals dominated their first preseason game by beating the Minnesota Vikings, 32-0. The Cardinals started the game by scoring 17 points in the first quarter, and all three of their quarterbacks had a passing touchdown. Carson Palmer completed all five of his pass attempts, while Logan Thomas completed 11 of 12 throws for 113 yards. It was really a flawless performance from everybody for the Cards. Although if there was one complaint, the Cardinals running backs averaged just 2.2 yards per carry on 37 touches and didn’t score a single touchdown. Overall, the Cardinals finished the game with 407 yards and didn’t turn the ball over. Defensively, the Cardinals allowed only 172 yards, forced two turnovers and sacked the quarterback twice.

The Vikings won their preseason game over the Oakland Raiders, 10-6. The Vikings scored all 10 of their points in the first quarter, which was enough to hold on. Matt Cassel completed five of six passes for 62 yards, while Teddy Bridgewater completed six of 13 passes for 49 yards. Matt Asiata scored the Vikings lone touchdown and was part of a Vikings backfield that averaged 3.7 yards per carry. Overall, the Vikings racked up 236 yards and didn’t turn the ball over. The Vikings defense really stepped up to the plate, holding the Raiders to 268 yards, scoreless until the final minutes of the fourth quarter and Corey Wootton came away with on of the teams two sacks.
If both teams can play as well as they did in their first preseason game, this will certainly be a game worth watching. Both teams were terrific defensively, but the difference is the Cardinals showed more signs of life on the offensive side of the ball.
With preseason games being such a toss-up and from what I saw a week ago, I’ll take the Cards and the points.
