The Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers meet Sunday night in preseason football at the Bank of America Stadium.
The Kansas City Chiefs won their first preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, 41-39. The Chiefs received a ton of help from De'Anthony Thomas, Sean Smith and Malcolm Bronson, all players who scored defensive or special team touchdowns. Starting quarterback Alex Smith only threw five passes for 19 yards, as backup Chase Daniel received the bulk of the action with eight completions on 10 passes for 126 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Chiefs ran the ball 25 times for 140 yards and one touchdown. Overall, the Kansas City Chiefs racked up 304 total yards of offense and scored at least one touchdown in each quarter. Defensively, the Chiefs allowed 376 yards and at least one touchdown in each quarter. Michael Johnson led the Chiefs with eight tackles, and Jaye Howard and Joe Mays came up with a sack each.

The Carolina Panthers lost their first preseason game to the Buffalo Bills, 20-18. Cam Newton didn’t play for the Panthers, so Joe Webb received the bulk of the reps with 28 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown and an interception. The Carolina Panthers threw the ball 42 times compared to 24 rushes, as they averaged less than three yards per touch on those limited carries. In fact, Webb was the Panthers leading rusher with 30 yards. Overall, the Panthers finished the game with 301 yards but turned the ball over three times and had nine penalties. Just a sloppy performance all around. Defensively, the Carolina Panthers allowed 303 yards and forced a turnover. Josh Norman and Robert Lester led Carolina with six tackles, while Greg Hardy and Wes Horton picked up a sack each.
I like the Kansas City Chiefs and the points considering we’re getting them with the plus money. The Chiefs probably had the best all around performance in the first week of the preseason, while the Panthers showed very little and didn’t even play their key guys.
Give me the Chiefs.
