The San Francisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos face off on Sunday in Denver as they meet for a week two preseason NFL matchup.
The San Francisco 49ers had some bright spots in their week one preseason loss to at Baltimore but for the most part they were taught a lesson by the same team that beat them in the Super Bowl two season back. Colin Kaepernick played one series and threw just one pass, and he completed it, but Baline Gabbert looked as awful as ever and it was Josh Johnson who appeared to be the best option for second string. Frank Gore didn’t play but the small amount we saw of Carlos Hyde he looked NFL ready and he could be the rookie story this season. The 49ers receivers didn’t have a lot to work with as Gabbert was that bad but Bruce Ellington was the shining star. Quinton Dial had 10 tackles, Corey Lemonier had one of San Francisco’s three sacks, and Chris Cook had an interception. Overall it as a dreadful night to forget for the SF offense and something they can’t do much but improve on.

The Denver Broncos got the win in their week one preseason game with the Seattle Seahawks but it was little consolation for their miserable end to last season. Peyton manning saw more action than most starting QB’s throwing 13 times and completing 10 before Brock Osweiler took over completing 50 percent of his passes with a TD, and interception, and a sack. Juwan Thompson saw the bulk of the action in a crowded Denver backfield averaging 9.8 yards per carry while Ronnie Hillman, Kapri Bibbs, and Brennan Clay also saw action. Damaryius Thomas had five catches and Wes Welker had two as the Broncos starters played. Corey Nelson had five tackles, DeMarcus Ware had one of Denver’s three sacks, and Steven Johnson had an interception. While the Broncos are looking to avenge last year’s Super Bowl loss, they will be missing Danny Trevathan for at least half of the season.
Denver spent most of their off-season beefing up the defense with players like Aqib Talib and Ware but they will have to see if that is enough to put them over the top. For San Francisco, the 49ers are loaded but will Harbaugh play his starters long enough that we don’t have to sit through more Blaine Gabbert. I have to believe the defenses get the best of this one and the play is the under. I will also have a pick on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
