NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
August 22, 2014
It’s Friday (finally), and we can celebrate tonight with another round of NFL preseason action. We’re getting started on the third week of games, which is always the most meaningful and closest to what we’ll see in the regular season. That said, let’s take our daily look around the league and see what everybody’s up to right now.
Blount/Bell Update: Now that we’ve got some extra information on the legal issues surrounding Pittsburgh running backs Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount, let’s take a look at the situation and see what we can make of it.
On Wednesday afternoon, Bell and Blount were pulled over in Pennsylvania (along with an unidentified female) and charged with marijuana possession. Officers recovered a 20g bag in the vehicle. Bell was driving, and there are reports that he’ll be charged with DUI. The possession charges they’ll be facing are misdemeanors.
Both players got to last night’s game; Blount made the team‘s charter flight, while Bell had to pay his own way to Philly since the plane left while he was getting blood drawn for his DUI charge. Both played deep into the game.
As far as a potential punishment, we’ll have to wait for formal charges to come, but suffice to say it’s a pretty difficult situation all around--not to mention a dumb decision by the two running backs.

Harvin Health: We got a bit of an update on how Seahawks WR Percy Harvin is feeling yesterday, so let’s check on him.
Harvin was quoted as saying that he’s as healthy as he’s been since high school, which is a pretty telling statement. He’s been dealing with hip issues that kept him sidelined for much of last year, but now reports his legs, hamstrings and knee are all feeling fluid and smooth.
Harvin is an X-factor for the defending champs. When he’s healthy, he’s the most dynamic and explosive player on their team. At 100 percent, we could see big things from him in 2014.
Wayne Update: Veteran Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne was held out of practice yesterday, which is significant since it doesn’t bode well for him being able to play in tomorrow’s preseason game against New Orleans.
We don’t know much for certain about Wayne’s potential status: Coach Pagano has stated he’s confident his veteran WR will be out there for the game, but has remained noncommittal overall.
Suffice to say, Wayne needs all the reps he can get in preparation for the season as he recovers from his knee surgery and tries to get his rhythm back. We’ll keep you posted on his status.
Week 1 Schedule: Now that the schedules have been released, we can start looking forward to the on-field action as we warm up for the 2014 campaign. Here’s a look at the first week of the season, which begins September 4.
