The Oakland Raiders and New York Jets begin their 2014 season with a Sunday matchup at MetLife Stadium.
The Oakland Raiders believe that this season could spark a major turnaround with all of the moves they made during the offseason. The Raiders went out and signed Matt Schaub, Maurice Jones-Drew, James Jones, LaMarr Woodley and Justin Tuck, in hopes of making them contenders in a tough AFC West. The Oakland Raiders are now a veteran team on both sides of the ball and could be in for a big season if those signings end up paying off. However, the biggest thing Oakland needs is for running back Darren McFadden to finally break out of his shell and stay healthy for all 16 games. Defensively, the Raiders pass rush will be a lot better but the pass defense that ranked 28th in the league last season must show that it can get off the field.

The New York Jets are another team that looks different from a year ago with the additions of Eric Decker, Michael Vick and Chris Johnson. Quarterback Geno Smith was named the starter over Vick, but Johnson and Vick should certainly spark a Jets offense that had no passing game whatsoever last season. It’s also likely only a matter of time before Vick takes over this offense considering he’s more of a playmaker and has far more experience than the shaky Smith, who wasn't great in the preseason. Defensively is where the New York Jets continue to butter their bread and that won’t change with Muhammad Wilkerson and Calvin Pace back in the fold. Youngsters such as Dee Milliner and Sheldon Richardson should also be better than last season with a year under their belt.
The Raiders are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 vs. AFC. The Jets are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games. The home team is 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings.
I don't trust either one of these teams heading into the season, but I do know that total is far too low. With the additions both teams made on offense, each team should be able to score 20 points. Take the over here.
