The Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles play Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field to begin the 2014 regular season.
The Jacksonville Jaguars can only hope they can build on some preseason success, as they defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and lost two games by one point each. The Jags will roll with journeyman Chad Henne at quarterback, and he looks to improve an offense that ranked 22nd in the league last season in passing yards. However, the Jaguars do have a few more offensive weapons this season with rookie wide receivers Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee now on the field and providing a spark. Defensively, there’s really only one way to go but up after ranking towards the bottom against both the run and pass last season. The addition of Chris Clemons on the defensive line and return of linebacker Paul Posluszny are nice starts.

The Philadelphia Eagles scored no less than 28 points in all four preseason games, proving that Chip Kelly’s offense is once again going to be tough to stop. With Nick Foles, LeSean McCoy, Darren Sproles and the return of Jeremy Maclin, it’s almost unfair how explosive the Eagles will be offensively. Philly was already the top rushing team in the league last season and had the ninth best passing offense, but those numbers could reach newer heights if everything goes as planned. Defensively is where the Philadelphia Eagles have issues, as they ranked dead last in passing yards allowed last season and gave up 76 points in the first two preseason games. Unfortunately, defense is an area that will continue to struggle for the Eagles considering how often they’re out on the field.
The Jaguars are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games in Week 1. The Eagles are 6-21-1 ATS in their last 28 home games and 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 games in September.
While the spread is tempting, I’m going to play this safe by taking the over. Neither team is great defensively and we know the Eagles are good for at least 30 points. This game will feature a ton of scoring, giving us a great shot to make some cash on the total.
