The New York Giants and Detroit Lions begin the 2014 regular season Monday night at Ford Field.
The New York Giants enter the 2014 season as a question mark on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Eli Manning did not look great during the preseason, and the Giants offense was most productive when the second and third unit stepped onto the field. While manning does have weapons around him in Victor Cruz, Odell Beckham Jr. and Ruben Randle, timing has been an issue and moving the ball with any type of consistency has been painful. Defensively, the New York Giants added cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, while returning cornerstones Antrel Rolle and Jason Pierre-Paul. The Giants defense was in the middle of the pack last season and hopes it can improve while the offense still tries to figure things out.

The Detroit Lions believe that this could be one of their best seasons in decades. The Lions offense is stacked from top to bottom with Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, Reggie Bush and the newly acquired Golden Tate. Detroit had the third-best passing offense in the league last season and you can bet those numbers will likely improve with all of the weapons returning. The Detroit Lions also have one of the best defensive lines in the NFL with Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley holding down the fort. The main concern for the Lions is the secondary after ranking 23rd in the league against the pass a year ago. Darius Slay should improve with another year under his belt and the addition of James Ihedigbo should help, but question marks still remain on the defensive side of the ball for Detroit.
The Giants are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 1. The Lions are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games in Week 1. The road team is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I expect a lot of fireworks in this game with both teams having the ability to score quickly and both defenses a little shaky at times. This total is a little low.
