Levi’s Stadium should be rocking on Sunday night when the Bears travel to San Francisco to take on the Forty Niners on Sunday Night Football.
The Forty Niners opened their season last Sunday by defeating the Dallas Cowboys, 28-17. The Niners jumped out to an early lead after a scoop and score on the Cowboys first possession, and the Niners never relinquished it. The defense for the Niners was solid, but was aided by some horrible decisions by Tony Romo, who honestly may have been the best player for the Niners on Sunday. The quarterback in red on the day, Kaepernick wasn’t too shabby either, throwing for two scores and over 200 yards, as Kap played a very efficient game, and did what he needed to do to preserve the win. It does have to be concerning for the Niners however that their line didn’t fare too well on either side of the ball. The Dallas defense isn’t near as strong as the Bears, and the Cowboys were able to disrupt the running game, and put pressure on Kap. If it hadn’t been for those turnovers by Romo, things could have turned out very different in Dallas.

The Chicago Bears entered their week one game strong favorites over the Bills, but it wasn’t to be as the banged up Bears couldn’t get it done at home. The Bears were banged up offensively, most notably Alshon Jeffery played just a handful of snaps, and Brandon Marshall also left periodically as he was banged up. As I mentioned above, the Niners struggled with protection, and this is an area where the Bears may have a solid advantage over the Niners. Chicago graded out well against the Bills both against the run and the pass, despite giving up one large to Jackson - too bad it was the sealer for the Bills. If the Bears can contain the Niners ground game, and force pressure on Kap, Chicago will give themselves a fighting chance here.
The Bears are just 3-9 against the spread in their last three seasons as an underdog, and Chicago is just 6-18 against the spread in the past three seasons against NFC teams. The Niners are 12-6 under Harbaugh when they are favored between 3.5 and 9.5 points. San Francisco is also 5-1 against the spread in their last six games against the NFC West.
My free play here is going to be on the total. I have a strong opinion on the side however, and that will be listed in the premium section come Sunday. I’m looking for a lot of points to be scored here, but it looks like there is some value with the under. The Niners are one of the more bet-on teams in the NFL, and because of that the total is usually jacked up a few points. That, combined with the game being in primetime, I wouldn’t be surprised if the odds makers gave themselves a bit of cushion as well, adding a few points onto the total. Like I said, my strongest play is on the side here, but for my free pick I’ll be on the under here on Sunday.
