The Line: New York Jets -2.5 -- Over/Under: 44 See the Latest Odds
The Chicago Bears and the New York Jets face off on Monday for ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
The Chicago Bears are coming off of an unlikely win where they mounted a furious comeback in San Francisco to beat the 49ers. The Bears looked rough in week one losing a home to the Bills in overtime as the defense just couldn’t make the stops to win the game but in the second half at San Francisco it was simply a different story. Jay Cutler has been hit and miss throughout his career but as we saw last Sunday with Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, and Santonio Holes he has the best set of targets he has ever had to work with and throw in Martellus Bennett, and Matt Forte the choices just get even better. Forte however has not been as effective rushing the football as he has just 103 yards on the ground through two games and Ka’Deem Carey is the only other back to cary the football and he has only done that once. Chicago’s defense looked vulnerable in week one at home and for the first half at San Francisco but when they started creating turnovers and playing “Bears Football” it all turned around. The Bears lost Charles Tillman for the season but Kyle Fuller stepped in and had two interceptions and Willie Young has three sacks. One thing we can already determine is the Bears are going to be fun to watch this season and play in some of the better games as they can score with anyone and seem to leave the door open for their opponents.

The New York Jets opened their season with a solid win over the Raiders at home and then lost in Green Bay in a game they led and let get away from them. Geno Smith is in his second year under center and completing 65 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and two interceptions are very much improved numbers over what we saw last season. Chis Johnson and Chris Ivory are sharing the load in the backfield with Ivory being far more effective but either way, the Jets have clearly committed to the run rushing 71 times in their first two games and throwing 60 times. Eric Decker ahs already proved o be an upgrade at receiver and adding value to Jeremy Kerley who at times seemed to be the only option for the Jets last year. Defensively the Jets have gotten after the QB with six sacks but don’t have an interception and have just one fumble recovery. David Harris remains the anchor in the middle of the defense at linebacker and Demario Davis has two sacks. The Jets are minus two overall in turnovers and against an opportunistic team like the Bears they are going to need to win or at least even up the turnover battle.
The Jets are 3-1-2 against the spread in their last six games, 1-3-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread, and 4-1 against the spread in their last five week three games. Chicago is 7-18-1 against the spread in their last 26 games, 1-5 against the spread following a win, and 1-7 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread. The Favorite is 3-1-1 against the point spread in the last five meetings of these two.
The total is set at 44.5 and I can see this one going way over though both of these teams like to claim a defensive personality. The Reality of this game is both of these teams have QB’s who are gunslingers and who want to take their chances downfield and they will.
