The Jets look to avoid a three game slide on Sunday when they welcome the Detroit Lions to town who are coming off a statement win at home against the Packers.
The Detroit Lions continue to be a tough team to figure out as they have alternated wins and losses so far this season as they opened the year with a convincing win against the Giants, sustained a loss in week two against the Carolina Panthers, before returning home and upending their division rivals from Green Bay. This week, the Lions head to New York to take on a Jets team coming off a tough loss at home on Monday Night Football against the Chicago Bears but will be playing with a sense of urgency to avoid slipping to their third straight loss. The Lions no question are lethal on offense at Matt Stafford, Calvin Johnson, and the tandem of Joique Bell and Reggie Bush form one of the most dangerous attacks in football but defensively the Lions are strong as well as they proved last week against the high flying Green Bay attack. Jets head coach Rex Ryan was quoted as saying that Lions defensive tackle Ndamakong Suh is the closest thing he has seen to hall of famer Warren Sapp and while he has a ways to go to reach that billing he is certain well on his way and he will do his best to justify Ryan’s words with a solid outing on Sunday.

The Jets sustained their second loss in as many weeks on Monday night as they dropped a heart breaker to the Chicago Bears who by game’s end were starting their practice roster on defense. New York has a very strong defense especially up front which will give Stafford and the offensive line some headaches but their secondary which is usually one of the best in football has been atrocious this season and is the subject of exploitation by many offensive coordinators. Calvin Johnson is in line to have a field day and has already expressed his excitement to play New York and with the way Alshon Jeffery shredded them on Monday you can expect to see a pretty solid afternoon from both Johnson and Golden Tate. New York’s offense was abysmal on Monday night as they were eaten up by a Bears defense filled with second and third string guys and a rookie (albeit very talented) in Kyle Fuller leaving many Jets fans skeptical on just how well the team can do with Geno Smith behind center. While I expect the Jets front seven to play a huge role in this game you can’t trust their secondary to do anything and while the Lions are a much better team in Detroit than on the road I think they show up here and prove to the rest of the NFL they are contenders this season.
