The Cincinnati Bengals and the Carolina Panthers face off on Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium for a week 6 NFL matchup of two of the more physical teams.
The Cincinnati Bengals are coming off of their first loss of the season as the walked into a hornet’s nest last Sunday Night against the Patriots. The Bengals were the last of the unbeaten teams in the NFL but they were no match for a New England team whose egos had been bruised the week before. QB Andy Dalton has completed 64.8 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and an interception but he has been sacked just once all year. Giovani Bernard is averaging a disappointing 3.6 yards per carry and he has 14 catches out of the backfield but rookie Jeremy Hill is averaging 4.8 yards per carry. A.J. Green and Mohammed Sanu each have 17 catches but the Cincinnati passing attack could get a boost this week if Marvin Jones is able to return. The bengals are plus three in the turnover department and Emmanuel Lamur has 29 tackles and an interception, Terrnace Newman has 28 tackles, and Carlos Dunlap has three sacks as the Bengals continue to primarily rush four. Vontaze Burfict missed last Sunday’s game and he is questionable for this one so I will be keeping an eye on his status.
USA TODAY Sports
The Carolina Panthers started the season with two wins and after losing their next two they bounced back last week with a win over the Bears. Cam Newton simply can keep things going and make plays and he has thrown just one interception and five touchdown passes. The Panthers running game has been banged up as both DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart have been sidelined and both are questionable for this one as Darrin Reeves has averaged just 2.7 yards per carry in their absence. Greg Olsen leads Carolina in receiving with 27 catches and rookie Kelvin Benjamin is a budding star with 24 catches. The Panthers have a plus four turnover ratio but the pass rush hasn’t been the same since Greg Hardy was suspended. Luke Keuchly is the best tackler in the NFL with 61Mario Addison has four sacks, and Roman Harper has two interceptions. Carolina will need to man up and get physical as that is their best chance in this one.
Cincinnati is 6-1 against the spread following a loss, 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games, and 13-3 against the spread in their last 16 home games. Carolina is 1-4 against the spread in their alst five road games, 10-4-1 against the spread in week 6, and 0-3-1 against the spread after allowing less than 90 yards in their previous game. The Favorite is 3-0-1 against the spread in the last four meetings of these two.
This looks to be a physical one but one where we need to watch the injury report for the Carolina running backs and Burfict on the Bengals side so for now I will take the points with the Panthers because the number looks to high but check back in case I have an update closer to game time.
