The Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants face off on Sunday in NFL NFC East Football action.
After years of disappointment the Dallas Cowboys appear ready to make a run at the playoffs and beyond as they are 5-1 this season and tied for first place I the NFC East. The Cowboys are coming off of a monster win in Seattle against the defending Super Bowl Champion Seahawks hat many feel pus them over the hump but there is still plenty of football to be played this season and things can change fast in the NFL. Tony Romo has completed nearly 70 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. DeMarco Murray has rushed for 785 yards and six touchdowns with 21 receptions as well and last week we saw Joseph Randle looking effective late for a change of pace. Dez Bryant is Romo’s go to receiver with 36 catches and four touchdowns and Jason Witten has taken a step back in his role with 21 caches but it has been Terrance Williams and his five touchdown passes that lead the Cowboys. The Dallas defense allows 21 points a game that is ninth ranked in the NFL but they have a minus two turnover margin. Barry Church leads the Cowboys defense with 33 tackles, Rolando McClain has 27 with two interceptions, and Justin Durant has 31 tackles. If Dallas needs to improve anywhere besides turnovers it is that they only have seven sacks thus far.
USA TODAY Sports
The New York Giants looked to be cruising along and putting things together winning three games in a row until the ran into a buzz saw and were clocked by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night. The Giants simply had no answers on Sunday and now they try and put it together for another big NFC East game on the road. Eli Manning had a rough night in Philly but he has completed 65 percent of his passes this season with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. Rahsad Jennings and Andre Williams are the Giants leading rushers and both have two rushing touchdowns. Victor Cruz’s season ended with a torn patellar tendon on Sunday so Rueben Randle is left to lead the way and tight end Larry Donnell may be called on to contribute even more in the passing game. The Giants defense is allowing 23 points per game and they are plus one in turnover margin as Jacquia Williams leads the way with 44 tackles, Price Amukamara has 35 tackles, and Antrel Rolle has 33 tackles and three interceptions. The Giants will need to put last Sunday behind them in a hurry if they hope to compete here.
Dallas is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, 5-1 against the spread against the NFC East, and 2-5 against the spread in their last seven home games. New York is 5-2 against the spread following a loss, 5-2 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread, and 3-7 against the spread against a team with a winning record. The road team has covered the spread in six of the last eight meetings of these two.
These two teams know each other well and are built to play one another and while the odds makers and public are giving the Cowboys a lot of credit, credit they have earned, I see this game as the 3 to 4 point game at best making the Giants the play.
