NFL Updates: News From Around the League
Today’s the day. The bulk of the NFL’s Week 7 matchups will be kicking off in just a few hours, so it’s time to get settled in for the show. In the meantime, let’s take a closer look at some of the notable players out there and see who is making headlines right now.
We might as well talk about the Percy Harvin trade, since that’s been dominating the headlines this weekend. The deal became official yesterday, with Harvin heading to the New York Jets in exchange for a conditional pick.
That pick was initially reported as a second-to-fourth round pick, but later reports yesterday put it a little lower, as in a sixth-rounder that could become a fourth-round pick depending on Harvin’s usage, availability and stats.
In the wake of this move, there have been some disturbing reports coming out of Seattle that depict Harvin’s issues with other members of the team, and the sense that he’d become a locker-room distraction.
The Seahawks didn’t use him much, posting 133 yards on 22 grabs in six games with 92 yards and a score on 11 carries in six games this season. This could potentially work out for both teams, with Seattle getting rid of a distracting player, and the Jets getting a desperately-needed playmaker. That said, Seattle RB Marshawn Lynch was reportedly very upset over Harvin getting traded, and nearly refused to get on the team bus after learning of the news. The two players were reportedly close.
This is definitely an interesting storyline. We’ll see where things go from here.

A couple of notable players were downgraded to “out” status yesterday. Among them are the Titans’ Shonn Greene, who is fighting a hamstring injury, and DeAngelo Williams, who has an ankle issue.
With Williams out (alongside fellow RB Fozzy Whittaker, who has a thigh injury), you can expect to see a heavy dose of Jonathan Stewart today against the Packers.
Panthers wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin is officially ruled as questionable today, but it’s looking like he might be able to take the field. He traveled with the team to Green Bay yesterday, so as long as he’s able to clear the league’s concussion protocols, he’ll be good to go. We’ll see whether or not he’ll be able to do that in the coming hours.
