NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Week 9 Schedule and More
October 31, 2014
Week 9 has begun in the NFL, with the conclusion of last night’s installment of “Thursday Night Football.” We’ve got a couple more days to wait until the bulk of the upcoming matchups kick in, so with that in mind let’s take our daily look around the league and see some of the headlines this morning.
TNF Wrap-Up: The Saints didn’t have a whole lot of trouble with Carolina last night, ending an ugly road losing streak in the process. New Orleans came out on top 28-10 on the strength of Mark Ingram’s two touchdowns and 110 total yards. Jimmy Graham also contributed with a team-high 83 yards and a score through the air.
New Orleans now takes control of the division and are the odds-on favorite to represent the NFC South in the playoffs.

The Chargers’ Donald Brown was able to practice in full yesterday, which is a good sign for his potential availability this week in Miami. He’s been trying to get over a concussion and hasn’t played since Week 5.
Brown has averaged just 2.1 YPC this season so far.
It looks like we’ve got a soft target date for the Vikings’ Kyle Rudolph. He’s been out for the last five games with an abdomen injury, and won’t be playing this weekend against the Redskins.
However, there’s a “possibility”--according to the Vikings’ coaching staff--that Rudolph may be able to return in Week 11 against the Bears. Minnesota is on a bye in Week 10.
As the week progresses, it’s looking more and more like Bengals WR A.J. Green will be able to take the field this weekend against Jacksonville. He was able to practice yesterday--albeit in a limited capacity--and the feeling around the team seems to be that he’ll take the field on Sunday.
We’re still no closer to finding out if Buccaneers rookie Charles Sims will be able to play this week. Coach Lovie Smith said yesterday that Sims is “making progress” but stopped short of saying he’ll be active for Week 9.
The coaching staff will decide Sims’ fate at some point in the next day or so. No. 1 RB Doug Martin is out of his walking boot but didn’t take part in practice yesterday.
Speaking of No. 1 RBs, the Ravens’ Justin Forsett was able to get back on the practice field yesterday. He’s getting over a minor issue with his ankle and should be okay for Sunday’s big matchup in Pittsburgh.
Week 9 NFL Schedule: It’s time to start looking forward to Week 9 in the NFL. Here’s a look at the complete schedule, along with the start times and TV networks you can catch the games on.
