The Detroit lions are coming off of a loss in Arizona but at 7-3 they are still in first place in the NFC North. The Lions offense has scored just 18.8 points per game and 332.3 yards per game as they are 31st in the NFL in rushing. QB Mathew Stafford has completed 61.2 percent of his passes with 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Joquie Bell has rushed for 442 yards and three touchdowns and Golden Tate has 68 catches and three touchdowns to lead the Lions receivers and Calvin Johnson has 38 receptions in what has been an injury plagued year. The Lions defense is number one in the NFL in points allowed at 15.6 per game and yards allowed at 290.3 per game and they are plus three in turnover ratio. DeAndre Levy has 96 tackles, Tahir Whitehead has 51 tackles, and Ezekiel Ansah has 5.5 sacks. The Lions have had success despite missing some of their best players most of the season.
New England is 5-0 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 10-3 against the spread in their last 13 home games, and 4-1 against the spread following a win. Detroit is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight road games, 1-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 4-0 against the spread in their last four games scoring less than 15 points in their previous game.
This is going to be a physical battle and the teams who have had success against the Patriots historically are teams that hit them hard and look for the Lions to do plenty of that. This game is closer than most think and it could come down to a last second field goal for the Pats so I am taking the points.
