2014 NFL Season

See the Latest Odds

With Thanksgiving almost here and this year’s winning and losing records all but solidified, I started thinking about which NFL franchises have had the most losing seasons in their histories. Today, we’re breaking down the top ten.

Top Ten Most Losing Seasons (By NFL Franchise)

1. The Arizona Cardinals, who have existed for 93 seasons (since the league began, in fact), have had a record 58 losing seasons. This year, though, they’re on track to take it all if they want it badly enough.

2. The Detroit Lions (who can forget that 0-16 year?) have had losing records during 43 of their 83 seasons in the league.

3. The Philadelphia Eagles, who were founded 80 seasons ago, have tallied 41 losing records.

4. The St. Louis Rams have had 35 losing seasons in their 75 years of existence.

5. The Pittsburgh Steelers have existed for 80 seasons; they’ve had losing records during 33 of them.

6. The Chicago Bears, who join the Cardinals as one of the league’s oldest teams, have also been around for 93 years. They’ve had 32 losing seasons.

(6*) 7. The Washington Redskins have also had losing records 32 times, but they’ve been around fewer seasons than Da Bears, clocking-in at 81 years old, which is younger than my grandpa.

8. The Atlanta Falcons have only been in the league for 47 years, but they’ve already tallied 29 losing seasons. That’s actually kind of impressively bad if you think about it….

(8*) 9. The Buffalo Bills have existed for 53 seasons and have had losing records for 29 of them. Still, though, they’ve got some of the NFL’s most diehard fans. Gotta give ‘em credit.

(8*) 10. The New York Giants, who have existed for 88 NFL seasons, have also had 29 losing years. Given how long they’ve been around, though, their overall win/loss percentage is pretty dang good.
