The Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers face off on Sunday in Paul Brown Stadium in a NFL showdown of AFC North teams.
The Cincinnati Bengals are in first place in the AFC North and with a 1.5 game lead with four games to play they control their own destiny. The Bengals also have a chance at home field advantage but there is plenty of football left to play and plenty of chasers. The Bengals have had a series of streaks this season starting the season strong, then losing through a wave of injuries, and then winning again. QB Andy Dalton has completed 63 percent of his passes with 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard have been splitting carries with hill averaging 4.7 yards per carry with six touchdowns and Bernard averaging 4.0 yards per carry with five touchdowns. Mohamed Sanu leads the Bengals in receptions with 51 and five touchdowns but A.J. Green is healthy again and he has 45 catches and five touchdowns. The Bengal’s defense is allowing 20.6 points and 364 yards per game with 15 sacks and they have a minus one turnover differential. Emmanuel Lamur has 78 tackles, Vincent Ray has 82 tackles, and Reggie Nelson has 78 tackles. The Bengals have been to the playoffs often but haven’t won a playoff game in quite some time.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been a tough team to figure out this season winning what look to be tough games against difficult opponents and losing to teams with the worst record in the NFL. Even with their inconsistent play the Steelers in the logjam for a Wildcard spot in the AFC and a game and a half behind the Bengals in the AFC North standings. The Steelers offense is averaging 26.7 points and 417.3 yards per game and they are led by QB Ben Roethlisberger who has completed 66.7 percent of his passes with 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions and he has been sacked 31 times. Le’Veon Bell is one of the most improved players in the NFL with 1.046 yards rushing and three touchdowns and he also has 65 catches and Antonio Brown is Pittsburgh’s leading receiver with 96 caches and 11 touchdowns. Defensively they Steelers are allowing 24.8 points and 347.9 yards and they have a minus four turnover ratio. Lawrence Timmons has 99 tackles, Mike Mitchell has 57 tackles, and Troy Polamalu has 56 tackles. The Steelers are coming off of a tough home loss to the Saints.
Cincinnati is 12-3-1 against the spread in their last 16 home games, 6-0 against the spread in their last six home games against a team with a winning road record, and 1-3-1 against the spread following a win. Pittsburgh is 5-0 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 4-0 against the spread on the road against a team with a winning home record, and 0-5 against the spread after allowing more than 350 yards in their previous game. Pittsburgh is 13-3-1 against the spread in their last 17 games in Cincinnati.
This looks to be a tough divisional battle that means a close game and I see the Bengals winning but not covering the number.
