NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Week 15 Schedule and More

The Week 15 NFL schedule will be kicking off tomorrow night when the Cardinals head to St. Louis to take on the Rams. In the meantime, we’ve got plenty of topics to cover as teams in both conferences prep for a playoff run. Let’s check out some of the notable news items out there right now.

The Panthers’ Cam Newton was involved in a car accident yesterday afternoon, and as a result he sustained two fractures in his lower back.
The good news is that Newton didn’t suffer any sort of internal injuries, but suffice to say this is horrible news to the Panthers’ playoff chances. He’ll almost certainly be sitting this week.

The Ravens’ Torrey Smith will more than likely be sitting this week against the Jaguars. He’s got some swelling in his sprained knee and is coming off a game in which he was used sparingly.

The Cardinals’ Andre Ellington got his hernia surgery yesterday in Philadelphia. By all accounts, everything went as planned. He’s obviously done for the year after a bevy of injuries.

We couldn’t get out of here today without talking a little Johnny Football, of course. The Browns made the announcement yesterday that Manziel would be starting in Week 15 against the Bengals, which by many accounts is too little, too late.
With Manziel making the start over ex-No. 1 Brian Hoyer (who has been awful the past few weeks), this upcoming AFC North battle will be must-see television.

Will Eddie Lacy be able to take the field for the Packers in Week 15? According to the early indications, he should be okay, but there’s still a pretty heavy question mark surrounding him.
Lacy was forced from the Monday night game against the Falcons due to a hip injury, which has opened up a scenario in which he could be limited or sitting out in Buffalo. If that indeed does happen, James Starks--who had a great game against the Falcons--would get the touches behind Aaron Rodgers. Still, as of right now the smart money is on Lacy returning.
