NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Week 16 Schedule and More
December 16, 2014
Week 15 is all finished up in the NFL, and that means all eyes are on Week 16. We’ll be seeing some playoff scenarios playing out this weekend, and with each passing day the anticipation ratchets up another notch. That said, let’s take our daily look at some of the hot topics out there.
MNF Wrap-Up: The Saints were able to grab sole possession of the NFC South lead last night with a big win over the Bears. The final score was 31-15, with Drew Brees throwing for 375 yards and three touchdowns. Jimmy Graham (87 yards) and Pierre Thomas (83 yards) each had five grabs.
For the Bears, it was another disappointing loss at home. Jay Cutler threw three interceptions on 17-of-31 passing on a mistake-prone evening for the home team.

Yesterday we got some insight as to the Redskins’ plans against the Eagles on Sunday. They’ll be starting Robert Griffin III, fresh off replacing former starter Colt McCoy in last week’s game. (McCoy hurt his neck on the first drive.)
It’ll be interesting to see what sort of offensive plan the Skins can put together before the Philly matchup. This is a big one for the Eagles, and Washington would like nothing more than to spoil their rivals’ playoff plans.
The Bills’ C.J. Spiller has gained clearance to return to the field, but whether or not he’ll be playing this weekend in Oakland remains another matter.
Spiller has been out of action since being sidelined by a broken collarbone in October. Bills fans will want to watch him in practice this week.
The Broncos got some devastating news on LB Danny Trevathan yesterday. He’ll be out for the rest of the season due to an injury on his left knee. It’s the same injury that had sidelined him for 11 of the team’s first 13 games. He aggravated the condition in Week 15.
The early expectation is for the Falcons’ Julio Jones to be able to play in Week 16 against the Saints. He missed out on the Steelers game due to a hip injury, suffered a week before. He’s got 1,428 yards on 93 grabs so far this year.
The Cowboys’ DeMarco Murray had surgery to repair a broken bone in his left hand yesterday, as per sources close to the team. Murray was hurt in Sunday’s win against the Eagles, and was able to come out of it with 81 yards on a workhorse-like 31 carries.
Murray hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Colts just yet, but you would think the team would rest their biggest offensive contributor before the playoffs. We wouldn’t be surprised to see him sit for the next week or two.
