NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Week 16 Schedule and More
December 19, 2014
Now that the Titans and Jaguars are all finished up, Week 16 in the NFL is officially underway. We’ve got something of a different week happening over the next few days, as there are a pair of games tomorrow night. In the meantime, let’s check out some of the notable players out there in the headlines.
TNF Wrap-Up: In the most unremarkable “Thursday Night Football” game of the season, the Titans and Jaguars battled for draft position, with both teams’ fans hoping they’d lose and increase their odds of landing that No. 1 overall pick this spring.
Jacksonville ended up winning the game 21-13 on the strength of Jordan Todman’s 71 rush yards and a TD. On the other side, Kendall Wright led the team with 73 yards on four grabs but couldn’t find the end zone.
This gives Tennessee a leg-up on the top overall pick, but Jacksonville will likely have a top-five pick as well.

Let’s start things off with a look at a couple of Chargers players who are injury concerns heading into the team’s next game tomorrow against the 49ers.
First off, Philip Rivers was able to practice yesterday and he’s expected to be able to take the field. He has one touchdown or fewer in five of his last six appearances.
Also, there’s RB Ryan Mathews. He missed out on practice yesterday, which was his second consecutive absence. At this point, there’s no way of telling if he’ll be able to get back during the regular season, but it’s not looking so good. When Mathews is out, Branden Oliver and Donald Brown have been carrying the load.
The Broncos’ Ronnie Hillman was able to practice yesterday and reportedly looked pretty good. He’s missed out on the past five games thanks to his foot injury. No word yet on whether or not he’s going to be playing on Monday against the Bengals on the road.
In other Broncos news, QB Peyton Manning had to leave practice yesterday to get some treatment on his ailing thigh. It’s the same injury that caused him to leave briefly during Week 15.
There’s no reason for concern as far as Manning’s status right now, so fans don’t have to worry about him not being on the field Monday.
The Giants’ Rashad Jennings was out of action yesterday due to his ankle injury. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him sit another game--this one being in St. Louis against the Rams.
If Jennings is out, Andre Williams will take the load once again.
