NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Week 16 Schedule and More
December 20, 2014
We’ve got a bit of a different vibe coming into the weekend during NFL Week 16, as we’ll get a couple of games today. While we’re getting set for the rest of the schedule, let’s check out some of the notable players and storylines out there.
The Packers’ Davon House will most likely be missing out on the rest of the regular season thanks to a shoulder blade injury. He’s not on reserve just yet, though; House might be able to come back for the playoffs.

The Jets’ Rontez Miles just got promoted to the 53-man roster on Tuesday, then on Thursday he sustained a shin injury in practice. He had surgery and is expected to miss the rest of the season.
With the Niners pretty much out of the playoff picture, many people are now speculating on RB Frank Gore’s future with the team. He’s in the final year of a four-year deal worth $25.9 million and has spent 10 years in San Francisco, but there are questions as to whether or not he’ll be back.
We’ll have to see what kind of attention Gore generates heading into the free-agent market before we can speculate on whether or not the Niners might re-sign him.
Speaking of re-signings, the Seahawks locked up DE Cliff Avril on an extension worth $28.5 million over four years. That deal includes $16 million in guaranteed money.
Had Avril not signed, he would have become a free agent at the end of this year. He’s got 12.5 sacks and six forced fumbles in his last 29 games.
Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr will be undergoing season-ending knee surgery. He was picked at No. 9 in this last draft, and finishes with 70 total tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles in his rookie campaign.
If he can bounce back healthy, Barr will make a solid building block for the Vikings’ defensive future.
The Bears will be without both S Chris Conte and K Robbie Gould this week against the Lions. Conte has a back injury and Gould is dealing with a quad issue.
The Jets’ Muhammad Wilkerson is questionable for tomorrow’s game against the division rival Patriots. He’s missed out on the team’s last three games due to a toe injury but did get in limited practice sessions all week.
