NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Week 17 Schedule and More
December 25, 2014
There’s no Thursday game in the NFL tonight, which is admittedly a little weird. Still, we’ve got some great Week 17 action to look forward to when things pick back up on Sunday. In the meantime, let’s check out some of the notable happenings around the league.
The Falcons’ Julio Jones was unable to practice with the team yesterday. He’s still sitting with an oblique injury.
That said, the general consensus is that Jones should be able to play on Sunday in the Falcons’ mega-important divisional battle with Carolina. The winner gets a spot in the playoffs.

In a similar situation to Jones, the Lions’ Calvin Johnson had to sit out of practice yesterday thanks to his ankle injury.
This is something of a setback for Johnson, as he’s been able to practice on Wednesday for the last three weeks straight.
The Lions have a division title on the line as well Sunday, and Johnson is expected to be out on the field. Detroit will be playing the Packers.
The Chargers’ Ryan Mathews was out of action yesterday as well. He’s dealing with an ankle injury that has caused him to miss two straight outings.
Mathews has been out of action for nine contests overall this year, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him sitting against Kansas City.
A.J. Green was unable to practice yesterday, but he reported improvement on his injured biceps.
Green was hurt in the big win over the Broncos in Week 16 and wasn’t able to move his arm during the game. Bengals fans should cross their fingers that he’s good to go for the Pittsburgh game. The winner takes the AFC North.
Reggie Wayne of the Colts says he’s going to be needing surgery on his torn triceps after the season. The injury has slowed him down quite a bit as of late.
We’d imagine Wayne will try to come back for at least one more year, but he’ll have to work out a contract first. He’ll be a free agent after this season.
In other Colts news, TE Dwayne Allen is not expected to play Sunday in Tennessee due to a knee injury.
Week 17 NFL Schedule: It’s time to start looking forward to Week 17 in the NFL. Here’s a look at the complete schedule, along with the start times and TV networks you can catch the games on.
