NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Playoffs Schedule and More
January 24, 2015
We’ve entered the weekend of the NFL’s Pro Bowl, which is tomorrow, if you’re into that sort of thing. More importantly that means we’ve got just eight days left until the Super Bowl, and the nonstop media coverage has already begun. That said, let’s check out some of today’s headlines from around the league.
We’ve got a little extra information this morning regarding the Colts’ Trent Richardson. He missed out on the team’s final two games (which were both playoff games), and it turns out he was suspended for the AFC Championship.
There’s little detail out there regarding the actual reasons why Richardson earned a suspension from the team, but he did miss the walk-through this past Saturday before the AFC Championship game due to what he called a “family emergency.” He was consequently suspended for two games, and if he's still with the team next year, he'll serve the other game when the season starts.
Some sources close to the team are claiming Richardson neglected to call the team to inform them he’d be absent, which would make sense if it were the reason he was suspended.
Richardson was a massive disappointment once again this year. He has just 977 rush yards in his 29 games with the Colts, averaging 3.1 yards per carry.

The Ravens announced yesterday that they’ll be cutting defensive lineman Terrence Cody following next Sunday’s Super Bowl.
Cody didn’t play much for Baltimore this year (one game), as he spent a lot of time trying to get over his hip surgery.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens between the Cardinals and veteran WR Larry Fitzgerald this off-season.
Late this week, team president Michael Bidwill reiterated his sunny outlook regarding the chances of the team being able to come to an agreement with Fitzgerald’s camp in their current contract negotiations.
There’s been all sorts of speculation recently as to what the Cardinals will ultimately do with Fitzgerald. He carries a cap hit of $23.6 million this upcoming season and most don’t think he’s worth that number at this point in his career. That said, the Cardinals offense was pretty stagnant without Carson Palmer in the latter part of this past season, and there realistically wasn’t anything any one receiver could have done about that.
