NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
February 22, 2015
The NFL Scouting Combine is beginning to wind down, and in its wake we’ve got lots more information on some of the incoming players this season. While we’re talking football this morning, let’s take our daily look around the league and see who’s in the headlines.
According to a report released yesterday, the Cowboys have made an offer to WR Dez Bryant.
This isn’t the first time an offer has been made by the team; the two sides were reportedly close to an agreement late last year before Bryant switched agents.
If nothing else, the team will likely use the franchise tag on their star WR. It would cost around $12.3 million to do so.
Bryant is coming off an 88-catch, 1,320-yard season in which he found the end zone 16 times.

Speaking of the Cowboys, they’ve now entrenched themselves in a run-first mentality. According to team owner Jerry Jones, that’s not changing anytime soon, regardless of how the DeMarco Murray contract situation pans out.
Jones says Murray won’t have the same type of workload placed on him in 2015, so you can expect to see another back or two thrown into the mix.
This is, of course, assuming Murray doesn’t hit the free agent market on March 10 and that the team gets a contract situation settled with him.
You can count on the Giants being buyers this off-season when it comes to wide receivers. The team reportedly isn’t super confident that Victor Cruz will be healthy and available by the time the season starts, so they’ll be bolstering their WR corps in the meantime.
Cruz is coming off a patella tendon tear in October and played just six games last season. He posted 23 grabs for 337 yards and one touchdown.
Jets LB David Harris hasn’t hit the free agent market yet, but he’s already drawing some looks from a handful of teams. The Falcons and Bears have been mentioned as potential suitors.
