NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
March 4, 2015
We’ve seen a flurry of franchise tag activity in the NFL this week as we get ready for the new league year, which begins in just six days. While we’re waiting, let’s check out some of the new developments that have materialized over the last day or so.
The huge news out of the NFL yesterday was undoubtedly the report that the Bills were intending to acquire RB LeSean McCoy from the Eagles in exchange for LB Kiko Alonso.
We won’t see the trade become official until next week, but the parties involved have reportedly been notified.
Alonzo missed last year due to a knee injury, but put up 159 tackles in 2013. McCoy, meanwhile, posted 1,319 rush yards and five scores in 2014.

In other Eagles news, the team is reportedly intending to cut ties with veteran defensive end Trent Cole.
Cole has been with the Eagles for the entirety of his 10-year NFL tenure and was going to cost the team $11.6 million in 2015. This move would give Philly an additional $8.4 million against the cap.
Down in Dallas, the Cowboys have some big decisions to make on RB DeMarco Murray. He’s set to hit the free-agent market on March 10, and will be testing the waters to determine his market value.
Murray may not be leaving Dallas, however. He is reportedly willing to return to the Cowboys if they give him a deal in the neighborhood of what other teams are offering.
How much that will be, however, remains to be seen.
Sources in Baltimore are speculating that No. 1 WR Torrey Smith has likely played his last game as a Raven. The sentiment around that situation is that he’s unlikely to re-sign unless he gives the team the proverbial “hometown discount.”
We won’t know for sure how things will shake out here until Smith makes up his mind, of course, but things aren’t looking so rosy as of right now.
