NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
March 10, 2015
It’s officially here: today marks the first day of the new NFL year, and there’s bound to be a flurry of activity right off the bat. In keeping with that mindset, let’s check out some of the notable news items hitting the headlines right now.
Let’s start out in Kansas City, where DE Mike DeVito took a pay cut yesterday to help the team out in the salary cap department.
The new restructured figure counts $2.9 million against the cap, as opposed to $5.4 million. He can earn back the majority of his cut through incentives, however.

The Texans released QB Thad Lewis yesterday, further lending credence to the rumor they’ll be signing Brian Hoyer today.
The team also re-signed Ryan Mallett, so they’re pretty set in the QB department.
Speaking of the Texans, the team released WR Andre Johnson yesterday. The seven-time Pro-Bowler will become a free agent today.
The Texans reportedly exhausted all of their trade options for Johnson, but couldn’t find a suitable situation to swap him. He would have counted a whopping $16.1 million against the cap this year had he stayed in Houston.
The Eagles re-signed OLB Brandon Graham on a four-year, $26 million deal yesterday. The contract includes $14 million in guaranteed money.
Graham posted 46 tackles with 5.5 sacks and four forced fumbles in 2014.
The Steelers cut ties with DE Brett Keisel yesterday, ending an era of 13 years in Pittsburgh.
While with the Steelers, Keisel compiled 30 sacks, seven forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries. He was with the team during two Super Bowl wins.
The Patriots’ Darrelle Revis will be a free agent today, according to reports. New England won’t be picking up his pricey $20 million option this year, which would cost $25 million against the cap.
There’s still some interest in re-signing Revis on a new deal, but the Jets are also said to have a desire to bring him back as well.
