School: Alabama Crimson Tide
USA TODAY Sports
Position: Wide Receiver
Career Stats: 228 catches, 3,463 receiving yards and 31 touchdowns.
Strengths: Amari Cooper is a smart player who knows how to take what the defense is giving him and use it to his advantage. Cooper has a great second gear that allows him to create separation and often lead to a big play. There weren’t many times in college when Cooper didn’t demand a double-team, and when he did see single coverage, he destroyed it with ease. Cooper is comfortable lining up just about anywhere on the field and does a great job of tracking the ball and securing the catch. Amari Cooper also ran a 4.42 at the NFL combine, so he certainly has more than enough speed to give defenses at the next level fits.
Weaknesses: Calling anything a “weakness” with Amari Cooper is almost nitpicking. However, Cooper could improve in the run blocking department. You’d like to see a little more excitement in that area. Also, Cooper has dropped a few more passes (13) the last couple of years than you’d probably expect.
Projection: Amari Cooper will probably be the first wide receiver selected in the draft and is sure to play an immediate role on a team desperate for a game-changing wideout. Cooper has the skill set to be one of the best players in the league at his position in no time. This Alabama WR is the real deal and will be one of a few recent Crimson Tide picks who is sure to pan out.
