Position: Defensive End
Career Stats: 111 tackles, 21 sacks and five forced fumbles.
Strengths: Leonard Williams is one of the top natural gifted pass rushers we’ve seen in a while. Williams has the size, strength, athleticism and power to really dominate at the next level. Williams is also a versatile player who can lineup as a 4-3 defensive end or tackle, but his best fit would be as a 3-4 defensive end. Williams has quick feet and great explosion for his size, and he has displayed violent hand usage. Another thing to really love about Leonard Williams is his massive frame that will allow him to add more weight and become even more dominant. Williams has a ton of upside and all of the tools to really be a force at the defensive end position.
Weaknesses: There have been some questions regarding Leonard Williams’ motor and whether or not he takes plays off at times. Williams also tends to struggle with leverage due to his above-average height at the defensive end position. Williams is still a raw football player who hasn’t mastered his technique yet, as he won more on his physical ability at the college level, something that will certainly have to improve.
Projection: Leonard Williams isn’t a finished product, but his natural skills and feel for the game make him one of the top prospects in this year’s draft. Williams has the potential to really be an elite defensive end and a cornerstone for one team’s defense. Expect Williams to be one of the first players taken and an immediate contributor wherever he goes.
