2015 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Jaelen Strong

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 217

Position: Wide Receiver

Career Stats: 157 receptions, 2,287 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns.

Strengths: Jaelen Strong has the perfect last name, as this kid is a man’s man. Strong has some of the best hands I’ve seen in a while from a college receiver, and that includes hauling in some passes with just one hand. Strong is a physical, strong receiver who will win most jump balls with a defensive back due to impressive body control. Jaelen Strong has decent leaping skills due to his basketball days and knows how to create separation. Strong has decent quickness and has shown the willingness to get his hands dirty in the blocking department. Jaelen Strong is the perfect red zone target at the next level.

Weaknesses: Jaelen Strong doesn’t have great speed and lacks a second gear after the catch. Strong could improve his route running and do a better job of catching the ball away from his body. Despite playing through injuries, there may also be slight concerns with his durability, as Strong was dinged up in both of his two seasons with Arizona State.

Projection: Jaelen Strong’s name seems to get buried with Amari Cooper and Kevin White ahead of him, but this kid can play. Strong has terrific hands and hasn’t even shown his best, as he played just 26 games with the Sun Devils. Jaelen Strong should go within the first couple of rounds and whatever team gets him will have a steal on their hands. Strong has big-play ability on an NFL team and will be a security blanket for any quarterback.
