USA TODAY Sports
Career Stats: 1,113 pass attempts, 9,190 passing yards, 64 touchdowns and 27 interceptions.
Strengths: Garrett Grayson has impressive field vision and does a good job of keeping his eyes down field even when on the move. Grayson has a strong arm with good deep ball touch, and there’s little doubt he can make all of the throws at the next level. Grayson is also a decent athlete, who topped 100 rushing yards in two of his four seasons with the Rams. Garrett Grayson is an intelligent quarterback who has a high football IQ and is willing to work hard to improve his game. There are also no off-the-field issues with Grayson, and he was a leader for much of his time at CSU. Grayson got better throughout his career and still has a decent amount of upside.
Weaknesses: Garrett Grayson still makes questionable decisions and can sometimes lead his receiver into a world of hurting. Grayson can predetermine where he’s going with the football, and doesn’t have a great mental clock to get rid of the ball. Grayson sometimes has to see the receiver wide open before throwing instead of leading receiver to open spot. Grayson is a project.
Projection: Garrett Grayson would be lower on the board if this QB class was stronger, but he’s likely going to go higher than usual given the limited options teams have. Grayson has a lot of tools to like, but he has a lot of work to do and will likely spend the first few years riding the bench. With good coaching and a solid mentor to learn under, Grayson could be a surprise in the future. I’d take Grayson starting in late round three.
