NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
April 21, 2015
The countdown to the 2015 NFL Draft now stands at just nine days, and as we get closer we’re getting more and more indications of what could be happening. In the meantime, let’s check out some of the notable players out there across the league.
The Giants’ Eli Manning is heading into the 2015 season on the last year of his contract, which seems to be a pretty odd situation for a franchise quarterback.
Manning says he’s not worried about playing without an extension, but if he and the team don’t come to any kind of an agreement he’ll be a free agent after this year. The 34-year-old has racked up 39,755 yards, 259 touchdowns and 185 picks in his 11 pro years.

The Browns have a little drama going with safety Tashaun Gipson. He skipped out on yesterday’s start to the team’s voluntary workout program, presumably as a message to the team over his second-round tender offer.
Gipson has 11 picks over the last two seasons, which is second in the league behind only Richard Sherman.
Gipson is set to make $2.356 million this year and could sign with another team. If he does and the Browns choose not to match, the other team would have to give up a second-round pick.
The Steelers’ Antonio Brown is also beginning a standoff of sorts, as he won’t be attending his team’s off-season workouts either.
Brown may end up holding out through minicamp until he gets a new deal. He’s coming off a monster season, racking up 138 grabs for 1,815 yards and will get $6 million this year. He signed a five-year deal worth $41.9 million back in 2012.
While we’re on the subject of workout holdouts, safety James Ihedigbo of the Lions can be tossed into that category. He was absent yesterday as the team began their program.
Ihedigbo is entering the last season of a two-year deal which will pay him $1.625 million this year. He’s said he’s not reporting to any team activities until he gets a new contract.
Ihedigbo is a seven-year NFL vet who posted four picks and 66 tackles last season. He started 13 games.
