NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
May 6, 2015
We’ve reached the middle of the week, and there’s plenty to talk about when it comes to the NFL. The season is still a long ways off, so let’s fill some time by taking our daily look around the headlines of the league.
Good news today for the Cowboys’ Rolando McClain. Ha had his 2013 charges dismissed yesterday.
Back in April of that year, McClain was arrested following an altercation with officers. He received misdemeanor charges for resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

It’s looking like the Buccaneers are intent on getting No. 1 draft pick Jameis Winston under center for Week 1, according to the team.
Tampa Bay brass say they’ll be giving Winston every opportunity to win the starting job and be the team’s new QB by opening weekend.
Winston will face a little competition from Mike Glennon but shouldn’t have much trouble getting the starting gig if he shows any promise at all in camp and preseason.
More drama out of San Diego this week. Chargers QB Philip Rivers is denying that the trade rumors involving him and the Titans stemmed from his camp.
There were lots of talks flying around the league concerning a possible trade up to the No. 2 slot (where the Chargers would take Marcus Mariota) in a deal involving sending Rivers to Tennessee. Those rumors never materialized.
Rivers enters 2015 in the final year of his contract and will be a free agent if he doesn’t get a new deal (or traded).
The Browns’ Mike Pettine says that Josh McCown will be entering camp as the team’s starting QB.
Cleveland didn’t draft a quarterback this past week, so the fact that McCown is entering the 2015 season as the No. 1 guy makes sense.
The Bengals’ Tyler Eifert is reportedly on track to return from his shoulder injury by the start of the team’s training camp.
Eifert tore his labrum and dislocated his elbow this past year.
