2015 NFL Offseason

See the Latest Odds

49 days until kick-off, people. I’d say we can officially start the countdown. I don’t know about y’all, but as much as I love summer, I’m more than ready for football season to get here. Today, we’re going to take a look at the top ten loudest stadiums in the league. You can almost hear the roar, right?

Top Ten Loudest NFL Stadiums

1. Seattle’s 12th Man takes great pride in making sure CenturyLink Field is at the top of the pack when it comes to ranking the NFL’s loudest stadium. Other teams have been known to bring-in massive speakers to practice the week before the play the ‘Hawks to try to get a feel for the noise level they’re about to face.

2. Technically speaking, the Kansas City Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium holds the current record for reaching the loudest decibel level in an NFL stadium. I still think Seatlle is louder on a game-by-game basis, though, so I’m sticking KC in the No. 2 spot. Devices that are designed to rate the loudness of jet engines have “listened” to Chiefs fans and they’ve never been disappointed.

3. The Mercedes-Benz Superdome, home of the struggling New Orleans Saints (who couldn’t even manage to have the best losing record in their division last year), hasn’t been quieted by it’s teams woes. In fact, just last year, fans nearly set the record for being the loudest indoor stadium, ultimately clocking-in at 122.6 decibels, just shy of Sacramento Kings’ fans 126.0 decibels.

4. University of Phoenix Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals, has played a huge factor in the few successes the team has had in recent years. In fact, over the past five years, no other team has had as big a differential in their wins and losses on the road v. at home than the Cards. This is largely due to their fans’ ability to cause false starts and shake-up their opponents by being flat-out loud.

5. The Indianapolis Colts’ Lucas Oil Stadium can be absolutely deafening, especially during the playoffs. The Colts’ former home, the RCA Dome, was known for it’s intense noise level, but I’ve never heard anything louder than Lucas Oil during a big game. In fact, “Bring the Noise,” is one of the club’s most popular current tag lines and we take it pretty darn seriously in Indy.

6. I feel that I would be remiss to write a list about the league’s loudest stadiums without including Lambeau Field. There’s arguably no fan base more passionate than the Packers’ and they’re not afraid to make noise to help the green and gold get the W on any given week. They might have icicles forming on their faces, but they’ll yell.

7. The Pittsburgh Steelers’ fans always make sure that Heinz Field is a miserable place for opposing teams to play. Between the level of noise, the often frigid weather, and the Terrible Towels whipping in the wind, it’s not a facility any club enjoys visiting.

8. AT&T Field or Cowboys Stadium or Jerry World (take your pick) is loud as heck, mainly because of the number of seats. When you have 87,000 thousand screaming fans (and very little material to absorb the sound), you’re not likely to be able to hear yourself think for long. Bring earplugs, folks.

9. Even though Boston will always be a baseball town at heart, the New England Patriots’ Gillette Stadium is one of the league’s loudest. Fans sit further away from the field than at most other NFL facilities, which, it’s more been argued, makes them more apt to scream at their team. In any case, the luxury boxes in Foxborough have literally shaken from the noise, so I think it’s safe to say they deserve to be on today’s list.

10. The Denver Broncos’ Invesco Field is far from being a quiet facility. In fact, the noise level of late is often such that you can’t talk to the person next to you (I know from experience.) That said, I put them in today’s last spot because I’m not convinced that the fans will remain so loud once Peyton Manning hangs-up his cleats for good.
