NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Schedule and More
August 6, 2015
Training camps are humming along in the NFL, and there’s plenty to talk about as we gear up for the 2015 season. With that in mind, let’s check out the headlines from around the league this morning.
Let’s start things out today by taking a look at the Texans’ Arian Foster and his injury situation. The bad news for Houston is that he’s currently expected to miss out on the first eight games of the 2015 season.
Foster reportedly has a “major” groin injury, suffered during Monday’s practice session. He’ll probably need surgery and may end up on the PUP list. It’s his second groin injury in as many seasons, as he missed out on a pair of games due to the same situation last year.
Foster is coming off a 1,246-yard, eight-touchdown campaign on the ground with another 327 yards and five scores off of passes. It’s obviously a major blow for the Texans, who will have to look elsewhere to replace that production.

The 49ers announced the release of veteran CB Chris Cook yesterday. He had inked a one-year deal with the team in March after playing six games for them last year.
The Ravens’ Elvis Dumervil returned to the team’s practice yesterday. He had been out of action for almost a week due to tendinitis.
The Bears definitely need an improved defensive effort this year, and they’ll be relying on some relatively unproven talent to try and get there.
LB Christian Jones, who is a formerly undrafted player out of Florida State, is entering his second year with the team and will be a featured player on D.
Jones played in all 16 games for Chicago last year, logging 68 tackles. He’s the odds-on favorite to make the team’s starting rotation in 2015. He played mostly outside LB last year but added some bulk over the spring and summer in an effort to make the move to ILB. We’ll see how he does very soon.
