NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Schedule and More
August 7, 2015
We’re heading into another summer weekend, and before we know it we’ll have lots of NFL football to keep us busy. In the meantime, let’s check out some of the notable news items out there in the headlines.
We got a little bit of information from Colts owner Jim Irsay this week regarding LB Robert Mathis’ potential return.
Irsay said that he anticipates Mathis to be back on the field in late September or early October. Mathis is currently on the PUP list and trying to return from a torn Achilles.
Mathis missed all of 2014 with his injury but put up 19 ½ sacks in 2013.

Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar has been making headlines this week, thanks to his injured ankle. The good news is that he got an MRI yesterday and the team still believes the sprain isn’t serious.
Dunbar hurt himself on Wednesday during practice. We’ll see how well he recovers over the next several days.
Good news for the Steelers’ Robert Golden. He hurt himself during Wednesday’s practice (knee), but will not need season-ending surgery.
Golden’s knee had no structural damage, which should give Pittsburgh fans a sense of relief. The team’s secondary definitely has some depth issues, and can’t survive too many injuries.
The Raiders activated RB Trent Richardson off the non-injury list yesterday. There has been no official announcement as to why he was on there in the first place, but rumor dictated that he was a few pounds overweight.
Richardson has an uphill battle to face this season in unseating No. 1 RB Latavius Murray in the backfield.
The Redskins’ DeSean Jackson suffered an injury yesterday. He separated his shoulder after running into a blocking sled during practice.
Jackson will likely be out for a few weeks, but the good news is that it’s a relatively minor injury.
