NFL Updates: News From Around the League, Schedule and More
August 12, 2015
It’s been a wild week when it comes to NFL news already, and there are more headlines emerging each day. Let’s take our daily look at the headlines and see what’s happening out there.
In yesterday’s biggest news item, Jets QB Geno Smith suffered a broken jaw during a locker room altercation with now former teammate IK Enemkpali, who was immediately released after the incident.
Smith will be out for 6-10 weeks with the injury, which puts him at a Week 3 return optimistically. His jaw is broken in two places.
Enemkpali reportedly sucker punched Smith after the two engaged in a “childish” argument. Now backup QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will have to fill in, at least for a while.
The Steelers replaced injured K Shaun Suisham yesterday (torn ACL), signing former Saints Super Bowl winner Garrett Hartley.
Suisham will miss the 2015 season due to his injury.
The Colts and WR T.Y. Hilton are scheduled to resume their contract negotiations today, so we’ll see if the talks become fruitful with a new deal.
Hilton logged 82 grabs for 1,345 yards and seven scores in 2014.
The Lions made some roster adjustments yesterday, putting TE David Ausberry on IR and signing second-year CB Jocquel Skinner.
The Ravens’ Marlon Brown was back at practice yesterday, just his fourth session of this training camp.
Brown has been fighting injuries to his hamstring and back, but his conditions are reportedly not major. No word yet on whether or not he’ll be ready for tomorrow’s preseason opener.
