The Kansas City Chiefs and Arizona Cardinals play preseason ball Saturday night at the U of Phoenix Stadium.
The Kansas City Chiefs look to take that next step after winning 20 games the last two seasons. The Chiefs offensively are in solid shape with Alex Smith at quarterback, Jamaal Charles at running back and with the addition of Jeremy Maclin at wide receiver. Knile Davis and De'Anthony Thomas also provide great depth in the backfield. The most interesting part of KC’s offense is the backup quarterback battle between Chase Daniel and Aaron Murray, two guys you will see a lot of in this game. Defensively, the Chiefs have a solid foundation in Justin Houston and Sean Smith. The guys to watch in the preseason include Marcus Peters, Dee Ford and Jaye Howard.

The Arizona Cardinals look to reach the playoffs back-to-back seasons for just the fourth time in franchise history. The Cardinals have to feel confident offensively with Carson Palmer at quarterback, while Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Ellington provide enough firepower. However, a recent injury to WR Michael Floyd could set things back a bit. Drew Stanton and Logan Thomas will get the bulk of the minutes in this game at the quarterback position. Defensively, the Cardinals a secondary tandem of Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu is easily one of the best in the league. As for the preseason, guys to look out for include Deone Bucannon, Ed Stinson and Alameda Ta'amu.
The Chiefs are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 Saturday games. The Cardinals are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games and 17-7 ATS in their last 24 games overall. The home team is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 meetings.
Stanton is one of the top backup quarterbacks in the NFL, which gives the Cardinals a huge edge in the preseason. I also look for Thomas to make a play or two and prove he belongs in this league. I like the Cards to win and cover this matchup.
