August 15, 2015
We’ve made it to our second official NFL preseason weekend, and there’s plenty more on-field action coming. Let’s check out some of the notable headlines out there in our daily wrap-up.
The Vikings made a couple of minor roster moves yesterday, releasing WR Gavin Lutman. In his place they signed DE Greg Hickman, who last played in the CFL.
Colts fans will want to keep a close eye on TE Dwayne Allen this season. He’s coming off an eight-touchdown 2014, which is even more impressive when you consider he only recorded 29 catches.
Allen also fought injury last year, or else his numbers could have ratcheted higher. He’s been troubled by the health bug over the past couple of years, missing 18 total games.
The good news is that Allen is entering this year healthy and 13 pounds lighter, which could help his durability.
Speaking of tight ends, the Cowboys’ James Hanna hurt his knee during Thursday’s preseason loss to San Diego. He’ll be missing around two weeks while he recovers.
While Hanna is recuperating, rookie TE Geoff Swaim will get increased reps and could incur some favor in the eyes of the coaching staff.
Chargers linebacker Tourek Williams was also hurt in that game, breaking his foot.
Williams will need surgery to correct his ailment, which derails his momentum heading into this season.
Uh-oh. Among the assortment of injuries from last night’s preseason action was a notable name in the Jaguars’ Julius Thomas.
Thomas suffered a fractured middle finger on his left hand following a short reception. He would immediately head to the locker room.
Jags fans (and fantasy football owners) will definitely want to monitor this situation as it develops this weekend.
