The Oakland Raiders have been the laughing stock of the NFL for the better part of a decade and for every glimmer of optimism over the years it was met with shattering disappointment and as such the team hasn't had a winning record since 2002. The Raiders however are finally turning the corner as they have a great nucleus of young talent to build around and a nice cast of veteran guys to lead the way and while it is likely they will finish below .500 once again they will definitely trend upwards. They are coming off a preseason opening win and will look to make it two in a row in Minnesota as two sophomore quarterbacks who are likely to have their names connected to each other throughout their careers square off with Derek Carr leading the Raiders and Teddy Bridgewater the vikings.
The Vikings are a trendy pick as a dark horse in the NFC this season as they get a rejuvenated Adrian Peterson back and have added Mike Wallace to the fray and with a defense in place that is already strong they could very well live up to those lofty expectations. One thing to remember though is that the Vikes play in a division with a team called the Packers who are consensus Super Bowl favourites once again and while a wild card spot is still very much in the fold they'll have a ton of teams gunning for them and they'll have to play great football from start to finish. Minny should have no trouble in the early going in this one but I do see the late stages being close and with more than a field goal coming in with a Raiders team looking to make a statement I think they can cover the line here.
