The Patriots and Panthers inch closer to the NFL regular season when they lock horns in Carolina on Friday night.
The New England Patriots have hardly had a quiet offseason as the Deflate gate scandal has hampered their on field expectations this season thanks to the Tom Brady suspension but they hasn't prevented them from performing well in the preseason and getting set to put the critics to bed. The Pats are the defending Super Bowl champions and while Brady is the heart and soul of the team and will certainly be missed for the first four games they still have a ton of play makers on both sides of the ball and won't be a push over regardless of who is behind centre. Jimmy Garoppolo will fill in as the replacement and he has looked good in the preseason and if he gets extended snaps in this one and new comer Reggie Wayne suits up than the Pats could be in good shape here.
The Panthers will be in a tough spot this season despite playing in the NFC South which by all accounts is the worst division football aside from the AFC South minus the Colts and now without Kelvin Benjamin for the entire year things could be even worse. The Cats did draft Devin Funchess who is a big body but will be unlikely to replicate Benjamin's performance in his rookie season so if the Panthers are to make a playoff push they will need a special season out of Cam Newton. Carolina has done well in the preseason thus far but I think that changes in this one as New England has more depth and should be able to eke out a win on a line that is at a pick em.
