The Toronto Argonauts and Saskatchewan Roughriders meet Thursday night at Mosaic Stadium on ESPN2.
The Toronto Argonauts look for a bounce back win after getting blown out by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Ricky Ray is completing 72.2 percent of his passes for 282 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Ray has four touchdown asses in his last three games. Andre Durie and Tori Gurley have combined for 62 receiving yards while Vidal Hazelton has two touchdown receptions. The Toronto Argonauts ground game is averaging one yard per contest, and Brandon Whitaker leads the way with two yards on three carries. Defensively, Toronto is allowing 42 points and 379 yards per game. Joshua Mitchell leads the Argonauts with seven tackles, Keon Raymond has one sack and Akwasi Owusu-Ansah has one pass deflection.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders will make their season debut in this contest after finishing with a 3-15 record last year. The Saskatchewan Roughriders turnaround has to start at the quarterback position, as they had six players last year attempt at least one pass. All eyes will be on veteran Darian Durant, who has 138 career touchdown passs, but really hasn’t made an impact for the Roughriders since the 2013 season. The Roughriders have a new look on the offensive end overall, but familiar names such as Naaman Roosevelt and Rob Bagg on the outside help provide stability. Defensively, Saskatchewan can also use some improvement, and that’s where you have to look at the older players such as Corvey Irvin, Brandon McDonald and Jonathan Williams. This will be an interesting season for the Roughriders.
The Argonauts are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up loss and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Roughriders are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games in June. The Argonauts are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 meetings in Saskatchewan.
I'm going to back the Saskatchewan Roughriders in this matchup. They have a heathy quarterback, at home and had more time to prepare against a Toronto team that just stunk up the joint last week. Give me the Roughriders in a feel good victory.
